Meyado at the Races
And what a night it was. For guests and advisers, an unqualified success. The view from the corporate box on level 3 of the main grandstand was spectacular, uninterrupted views of the track and finishing line, the quality of fare exceeded expectations and all credit to the staff at The Singapore Turf Club for their attention to detail and willingness to leave no glass empty.
Our sponsors on the night, Michael Gill from Rudolf Wolff and Gideon Ng from Aviva, saw their funds being put to good use and were able to speak to our clients directly to find out what their concerns and requirements are.
Our racing pundit Craig Geehman* introduced Stephen Gray, one of the trainers at Kranji, who informed and amused with anecdotes and facts about the racing. Stephen had a couple of runners during the evening and hopefully it was not our presence that conspired against him.
Thanks to them, the group had access to the parade ring, where we could see how our informed knowledge would perform, first hand.
Number of legs; check, blind as a bat; check, jockey less than 40 kgs (about the weight of my right leg), check. All boxes ticked; choose the one with the nice coloured silks.
Having a small flutter adds to the excitement of seeing a ton of horse flesh in full flow, the shouting jockeys, thunder (and even 100ms away, it is thunder) of hooves and cracking of whips. It sets the pulse racing and then you realise that the infallible system of choosing the one in blue, may not be as perfect as initially anticipated.
